The park is closed and is not open to any reservations for 2008 West Point Lake extends 35 miles along the Chattahooche River, just north of West Point, Georgia. The lake has a shoreline of more than 500 miles. Surrounded by forests and fields on the Alabama-Georgia state line, West Point Lake provides excellent fishing and camping and many other recreational opportunities. Indian Springs Recreation Area offers 4 separate locations for group campers.

From LaGrange, GA, travel west on State Route 109 for 8 miles. About 1/2 mile after crossing the first bridge, the recreation area is on the right side of the road. Follow the signs.
R SHAEFER HEARD (GA)
Description
West Point Lake extends 35 miles along the Chattahooche River, just north of West Point, Georgia. The lake has a shoreline of more than 500 miles. Surrounded by forests and fields on the Alabama-Georgia stateline, West Point Lake provides excellent fishing and camping and many other recreational opportunities. The R. Shaefer Heard Campground offers 117 sites with electric and water hookups. Additional amenities include a dump station, laundry facilities, hot showers, a boat ramp, a pay phone, a playground, and a tennis court.
