Description
Sylvania Wilderness Backcounty Camping is not a physical campground located at one location. The 50 individual sites are located along eight lakes within the Sylvania Wilderness. Camping is allowed only at the designated sites. Reservations, fee payment, registration and viewing of a Leave No Trace video are required prior to camping during the period from May 15 through September 30 annually. This takes place at the Sylvania Entrance Station (Sat. - Thurs.: 8:30-5:00, Friday: 8:30 - 6: 00). The Entrance Station can be reached May 15 through September 30 by calling (906) 358-4404. Twenty-five percent of the campsites are held back to allow for walk in reservations during the summer season, with walk in customers registering at the Entrance Station. Camping is free and open at designated sites outside of the reservation season on a "first come - first served" basis, from October 1st through May 14th. The developed campground at Clark Lake, adjacent to the wilderness, is not reservable.
Special rules apply within the Sylvania Wilderness and must be observed by all visitors. These rules, and a detailed map, can be found at Ottawa National Forest Website
