Description
This rustic historical cabin is a wonderful retreat. Located in the Elkhorn Mountains, a place so unique, it is the only Wildlife management like it in the nation. The native open park landscape offers an abundance of things to do in the area. Wildlife viewing and photography opportunities abound. There is an interpretive trial just outside of the cabin. the largest waterfall on the Helena is located within hiking distance. Fishing, hunting and hiking are other opportunities. Try your hand at outdoor cooking over the open campfire or spend the evening spinning spooky tales. Star gazing can be had at its best. There is a lot of history in the area from mining days gone by.
Directions
From Helena, travel 26 miles southeast towards Townsend, Montane. Turn right just before the bridge going into Townsend, you are on Indian Creek Road. At about 3 miles turn left. The road will lead you down a hill and into a narrow canyon. You will pass under a conveyer belt for the current mining operations in the area. The canyon in narrow and visibility can be poor as it winds through the Indian Creek Canyon. Please drive slowly and use caution. You will come to an intersection, continue on the right until you come to road #4031. Turn left and stay ion this road for 2 1/2 miles the turn right and travel 1/2 miles to the cabin. From December 2nd through May 15th, the last 4 miles are not open to motorized vehicles, access is by foot, ski, or horseback.
