Motorized access is available only in winter (12/1 to 4/30) and only from the Snug Harbor Road Trailhead. The Russian Lakes Trail is closed year round to motorized vehicles from the Lower Russian Lakes Trailhead to Upper Russian Lake Cabin.
Closed to horse/pack stock from 4/1 to 6/30.
3 consecutive days maximum per person from 5/15 through 8/31.
Maximum group size allowed is 8. Treat or boil water before consumption.
For trail conditions, safety precautions, and Leave No Trace Outdoor Skills and Ethics, please contact the District Office at 907-224-3374. The person holding the reservation must be 18. No commercial use allowed. Cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table, benches, a stove for heat, and an outside toilet. Mattresses or cooking utensils are not provided. Cabin users should bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cook stoves, cooking gear and food. Click here to visit the Forest Service website for more information. Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.

Winter parking for Upper Russian Trailhead is located at mile 9 of Snug Harbor Road. The last 3 miles of Snug Harbor Road to the trailhead is not plowed in winter. Winter parking for Lower Russian Lakes Trailhead is 1 mile back on the Campground road. This last mile of the Campground road is not plowed. Access via Russian Lakes Trail (12 miles from the Russian River Campground parking area and 9 miles from the Cooper Lake Trailhead), or via floatplane (20 minutes from Cooper Landing).
