Description
Open June 30 - October 1. Perched on top of a mountain at 8,100 feet, this fire lookout was used until the late 1980's. In the small 16'X16' room a wood stove, firewood, broom, axe, fire extinguisher, table, two chairs, two mattresses and a shovel are provided. You will need to supply your own dishes, utensils, cookware and drinking water. With a catwalk surrounding it you have great views in all directions. An outhouse is located nearby. The maximum capacity for the lookout is two people and cost is $20/night.
No linens or bedding provided.

Sheephorn Lookout: From Salmon, Id. Take HWY 93 south, 23.0 miles to Iron Creek bridge. After crossing bridge, immediately turn right and continue on FS road #045 approximately 3 miles to a left turn on FS road #083, Peel Tree road. Follow #083 for 10 miles to Sheephorn saddle and the intersection with FS road #050. Take road #050 for 5.4 miles to parking area for lookout. There are approximately thirty stairs from the parking area up to the base of the lookout building.

For 2008: open Jan 01 - March 31, June 30 - Oct.31, and Dec 15 - Dec 31. A-frame is located on a groomed snowmobile trail and adjacent to a cross country ski and mountain bike trail system. The ground floor and outhouse are accessible to persons-with disabilities. Maximum capacity for the A-frame is six people and cost is $20/night. There are two single beds at the ground level and four single mattresses in the loft. The loft is reached by ladder. The A-frame has a table, two chairs, and a wood stove. An outhouse is reached by an 80-foot-long paved trail. You will need to supply your own dishes, utensils, cookware and drinking water. Broom, axe, fire extinguisher and shovel are also provided. Outside, there is a grill, a fire ring and an accessible picnic table. No linens or bedding provided. There may be fire restrictions in summer months.
Directions
From Salmon, Idaho drive south on Highway 93, 5.0 miles. Turn right at Shoup Bridge and travel on FS road #021 Williams Creek Road. Drive 13.5 miles up Williams Creek road to the summit and turn right on the ridge road #020. Travel 2.8 miles on road #020 and the A-frame entrance road is on the right. Winter access: December - March. Park at parking area on right side of road at junction of Williams Creek Road and Ridge Road. Ski or snowmobile 2.8 miles to the cabin.
