Naturehills.com carries thousands of products including the Red Duchess
from the Fruit Trees family.
The Red Duchess Apple, Malus 'Red Duchess', is a red selection of 'Duchess of Oldenburg' (Originating from Russia.) This is an old favorite that is very hardy, and produces medium to large, greenish yellow apples with bright red striping and splashes. It has russetted dots which are distinctive. The flesh is white, fine, firm and juicy. It is not a long term keeper, but is a good seasonal apple ripening in mid-August. Its fruit is tart and juicy and good for eating, but best for pies and sauces. The Red Duchess produces an abundance of fruit, and is an annual bearer. It will pollinate easily with most other apples. The tree is moderately vigorous and only somewhat susceptible to fire blight. It is vigorous, productive and spreading. Plant about a month after the first killing frost in the fall or about a month before the last killing frost in the spring. Select a planting site that has good air, drainage, full sunlight and deep, well drained soil.
