Malad Summit Guard Station is located about 14 miles north of Malad, Idaho on Malad Pass just off I-15. It is situated in a forested setting in a narrow drainage. Take exit 22 (Devil Creek Reservoir) off I-15, 11 miles north of Malad, Idaho. Go north on Highway 191 for 3.2 miles (paved road), turn west and cross over the interstate on Forest Service Road #041 and go about two miles (good graveled road), then turn left and go a few hundred feet to the guard station. Malad Summit Guard Station is located within the Mill Creek Drainage, Mill Creek runs through the site. The rustic one-room cabin offers a secluded retreat on ???????? fenced acre, surrounded by scenic high country views. Fishing, hunting, scenic hiking trails and ATV trails are available during the snow-free season. In winter, the cabin can be reached by snow machine, cross-country skies, or snow shoes (about 1/2 miles from the plowed road). The Malad Summit Cabin offers a mudroom with shower facilities. The main room serves as the kitchen, sink and sleeping room. Cabin amenities include a wood stove, propane heater, propane stove/oven, large propane fridge, propane water heater, two bunk beds, two folding cots, two folding chairs and a large table w/four chairs. Adjacent to the cabin, is a single stall vault toilet building, fire ring, and picnic table (seats six). A small front porch offers an enclosed view of the woods. Corrals are available for stock. There is parking space available for three RVs. Wood for the wood stove and fire ring is seasonally available, and stacked adjacent to the cabin. Some pots, pans and dishes may be available, but it is suggested that guests bring their own cooking supplies and dinnerware. Bunk beds have mattresses (sealed in plastic); guests must provide their own bedding. Brooms and dust pans are provided, but guests need to bring their own dish soap, cleaning supplies and garbage bags. The cabin is a "Pack In /Pack Out" facility, which means all garbage goes home with the guests. Pets are allowed, but guests must ensure no damage to furnishings, no harassment of wildlife, and guests must clean up after their animals. Please, no smoking in the cabin. Leave the cabin clean and orderly. This facility and the surrounding forest belong to you. Off-road vehicle stickers are required for ATVs, motorcycles, and snowmobiles using the area. Hunting and fishing are regulated by Idaho State Fish and Game, phone 208.232.4703. The Local District Office telephone number is 208-236-7500. Security is provided by periodic patrols by county sheriffs.

The rustic one- room cabin offers a secluded retreat on four fenced acres, surrounded by high mountain vistas. Fishing, hunting, scenic hiking trails and ATV trails are available during the snow-free season. In winter, the cabin can be reached by a groomed snow machine route (about four miles from the closed gate on Pebble Creek Rd). The old Ranger Station offers a mudroom/porch that has a large sink with countertop and shower facilities. The main room serves as the kitchen and sleeping room. Pebble Guard Station is located about 16 miles north of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho in Pebble Creek Drainage. It is about 8 miles west of Bancroft, ID. From Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, go north on Highway 30 (paved road) about 9 miles to Pebble Creek Road (also known locally as" Mikes Place" or "Whisky Mikes"). Turn left (west) across railroad tracks on Forest Road #036 (gravel road). Stay on this road and go about 7 miles to the cabin. Big Springs Campground is about one half mile beyond the cabin.
