PODUNK GUARD STATION (UT)

Description
Podunk Guard Station was constructed in 1928 and has been used by generations of Forest Service employees. The two room guard station sits in a narrow mountain valley beneath a stand of mature spruce trees and above the meandering East Fork of the Sevier River. This site has a permanent vault toilet, picnic table, a place for campfires and an interior propane stove. This Cabin does not have running water. The kitchen has a propane stove/oven, table and chairs. There are no a pots, pans, dishes or utensils; these must be provided by the occupant .
There is water at the Tropic Reservoir Spring. The spring is approximately 8 miles from the cabin and located next to Tropic Reservoir (see map). Weather:The average temperatures from June to August are 74???????????????? in the day and 42???????????????? at night. The average temperature range in September is 68????????????????-37???????????????? the average range in October is 57????????????????-27???????????????? Recreational opportunities in the area include trails for hiking, mountain biking and ATV's. Pets are not allowed inside facilities. Off-highway vehicles can easily access the Paunsaugunt, Fremont and Great Western OHV routes from the guard station. Fishing opportunities: include Tropic Reservoir (81/2 miles north of the guard station) and the East Fork of the Sevier River. Access to the guard station requires driving 15 miles along Road 087 (well maintained dirt road), via Utah State Highway 12. Highway 12 is Utah's first All American Road designated by the National Scenic Byways program.

Directions
From the town of Panguitch: turn onto State Highway 89, travel 7 miles until you arrive at State Highway 12. Drive 8 miles on Highway 12 when you will arrive at East Fork Road or FS 30087. The sign at this junction will say Tropic Reservoir 8 miles. Travel south on this well maintained two-lane dirt road for 16 miles. The Podunk Guard Station will be on the East side of the road. From Bryce Canyon National Park: travel on hwy 12 for 5 miles until you arrive at East Fork Road or FS 30087. The sign at this junction will say Tropic Reservoir 8 miles. Travel up this well maintained two-lane dirt road for 16 miles. The Podunk Guard Station will be on the East side of the road.

JONES CORRAL GUARD STATION (UT)

Description
Jones Corral Guard Station is located in a remote setting on Mt. Dutton. Jones Corral was constructed in 1935 and has been used by generations of Forest Service employees working in the back country. This rustic guard station sits at the edge of a meadow and beneath a stand of aspen and mixed conifer trees. This site has an area for RV or trailer space, permanent vault toilet, picnic table and a place for campfires. The average temperatures from June to August are 74 degrees in the day and 42 at night. In September it ranges from 68-37 degrees. In October the temperature range is 57-27 degrees. This cabin does not have running water. The kitchen has a propane stove/ oven, table and chairs. There are no pots, pans, dishes, or utensils. There is no water at this cabin. All water needs to be brought in. Jones Corral Guard Station is open for reservations from Memorial Day to Labor Day, depending on weather conditions. Reservation dates are subject to change. Walk-in's are accepted on a first come first served basis for the remainder of the year. Recreational opportunities include hiking, bicycle riding, horse back riding, hunting, wildlife viewing and off-highway vehicle routes. Off-highway vehicles can easily access the Fremont OHV trail from the guard station. Mt. Dutton is well-known for its trophy game animals. This is a pack-in and pack-out site. Minimal cleaning supplies are provided and visitors must do minimal cleaning. No linens or services are provided. Access to the guard station requires a high clearance vehicle to drive along #125 & #126 to this remote cabin in the woods.

Directions
From State Highway 89, turn east onto State Highway 62. Travel on this road about 12 miles, where it turns into State Highway 22 just north of the town of Antimony. In this town Forest Service road 126 will be found on the west side of the road. Travel along this high clearance dirt road about 12 miles to reach Jones Corral Cabin. From Bryce Canyon National Park travel north on State Highway 22 for approximately 35 miles until you arrive in the Town of Antimony. In this town, FS 126 will be found on the west side of the highway. Travel along this high clearance dirt road about 12 miles to the Jones Corral Cabin.
