Magnolia - Butterflies, Magnolia x ‘Butterflies’ (PP7,456), is considered one of the finest of all yellow-flowered Magnolias. It is certain to become a classic! A profuse bloomer, Butterflies Magnolia produces 4 to 5 inch, rich yellow double flowers, each with 10 to 15 petals. They are held upright, like butterflies alighting on branches! The flowers are a deep yellow in cool climates and lighter with more heat. They bloom in very late spring, which protects them from frosts in cool-spring climates. Pollution tolerant, this magnolia makes a superb specimen, even in the urban landscape. Plant in a location protected from wind and free of competing roots. Butterflies Magnolia prefers moisture-retentive, acidic, organically enriched soil; full sun to partial shade. Growing in a neat, pyramidal form, Butterflies Magnolia grows 16 feet tall and 10 feet wide in 14 years, eventually reaching 25 to 35 feet tall and 10 to 15 feet wide.
