Description
This 196-square foot cabin sits atop Mt. Wam on a rocky point in the middle of the Ten Lakes Proposed Wilderness Area. This site offers views of the Canadian Rockies to the north, Glacier Park to the east, the Whitefish Mountain Range to the south, and the rugged rock cliffs of the Galton Range to the West. The regional map shows roads that are nto open or have been converted to trails. Up to date maps can be purchased at the district.
Directions
From Eureka travel HIghway 93 south for approximately 9 miles to Forest Road 114 (Grave Creek Road). Turn and follow Road 114 for 10 miles to the junction of Forest Road 7021 (Stahl Creek Road). Turn onto Road 7021 and follow for 0.5 miles to the junction, turning onto Road 7022 (Clarence Creek Road). Take this raod to the end which turns into the trailhead for Trail 81. Follow Trail 81 for 0.5 miles to Trail 78. Follow Trail 78 for 3 miles to the junction with Trail 339. Follow Trail 339 to Mt. Wam. Hike approximately 5 miles to the cabin. Other trails may be accessed to Mt. Wam.
Description
Dickey Lake is located in the northwest corner of Montana, 20 miles from Canada and 65 miles from the entrance to Glacier National Park. The campground is adjacent to the lake, which is clean, clear and enjoyed by many for water-skiing, boaring, fishing, swimming, sunbathing, etc. Few amenities are provided other than picnic tables, fire rings, tent pads, and boat trailer and RV parking. The campground has 25 campsites; 2 are reservable and 23 are filled through a first come, first serve basis. Located in an exceptional area of the state, the campground is adjaent to several hiking trails providing opportunities for many user groups. A trail for the physically challenged is adjacent to the campground and leads to a viewing platform that offers nice views of the lake. Interpretive programs are given throughout the summer. In the spring and early summer the sound of the loon can often be heard. Amoderately sized market with gas and groceries is located 3 miles to the north and a small eatery and pub with espresso is located 2 miles to the west.
Directions
From Eureka, travel south on US Highway 93 for approximately 15 miles to the road junction with the town of Fortine. Continue south on US Highway 93 about 1 1/2 miles past the junction with this small town, the campground is easily located just to the east of US Highway 93.
